After graduation from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2006, Dr. Fran Walker and her husband decided to settle in Campbell River, BC, which is on Vancouver Island. Unfortunately, the area offered very few career opportunities at the time, so the decision was made to move to Alberta for three years. While there she had every intention of calling Campbell River "home" one day and in the summer of 2008, she met with Henry Schein Field Sales Consultants Victor Yoon and Robin Volk and Equipment Sales Specialist Ryan Miller to begin the process of creating her ideal office.

"I remember Victor and Ryan visiting UBC's dental students as we were nearing graduation," notes Dr. Walker. "We were given coupons that could be used in purchasing dental instruments." That initial introduction familiarized Dr. Walker with Henry Schein Canada's products and services and grew into the relationship that later supported the planning and construction of her new office. "Victor came to me as the leader of a team of specialists," comments Dr. Walker. "He ensured that the designer got the floor plan done and worked with equipment manufacturers-always negotiating on my behalf for the best deal. He, Ryan Miller and Robin Volk were at the construction site, monitoring the progress. They were also there during the equipment installation and returned several times after my office opened to make sure that I was satisfied. I felt like they were really working for me rather than for Henry Schein Canada!"

The result? A perfect gem of an office—Dr. Fran's dental care—where "less is more" and the Doctor can devote her time and energy to providing her patients with the services she considers important. The 1,411-sq.-ft. office holds 3 operatories and has a support staff comprised of 1 receptionist, 1 hygienist, and 2 assistants.

The new practice is set within a mall, which gives prime exposure, easy access, and plenty of parking within proximity. Dr. Fran's dental care treats patients of all ages—from babies to seniors. The very nature of the office—a solo doctor, small office format—allows quality time to be spent with each patient. Whether discussing treatment options or the suitability of such choices, there is always a comfortable and supportive approach to finding the best way to guide the patient toward good oral health care. Dr. Walker treats many children, which becomes evident as you notice the miniature model railroad train set as a window display in the reception area. Her whimsical balloon animals delight many young visitors and initiate a trusting relationship between her and the little patients.

The reception area's customized granite-topped curved reception desk and the long curved hallway leading to each operatory adds a unique touch to the décor. Flooring throughout the facility is a commercial-grade wood laminate. Pelton& Crane's Renaissance cabinets, dental chairs, and HELIOS lights that look great and create a relaxing atmosphere for patients are used in the operatories. First impressions of this beautiful new office are always on the upside. "A good first impression sets the tone for establishing a long relationship with the patient," notes Dr. Walker.
